Most of the inmates were kind to Princess Sarabi when she arrived at Gereza Kilima, but one or two, such as Refu and Shupaa, liked to poke fun at her. There was one other lioness who wasn't so nice as well - but she planned to be much nastier than the younger, sillier girls on Saba-Wing.
Farai wandered across the eating cave one morning and joined the queue for breakfast. The Ans and Tumai were busy sorting out fresh wildebeest, antelope and gazelle into separate piles so serving their friends would be easier. Farai's tail flickered impatiently as more inmates joined the line behind her. She suddenly gave an irritated growl and shoved Shupaa, who was in front of her.
"Hurry up and move it already!" She snapped as the younger lioness turned around, looking startled.
"Aye, all right! Geeezee..." Shupaa responded. She hurried over to Refu, who was now at the front of the line. Tumai passed them some food and the two of them went to find a quiet place in the eating cave, well out of Farai's way.
Farai finally reached the front of the line. Anina gave a disgruntled sniff at the sight of her and turned around to pick up a dead mouse before Farai could even ask for what she wanted. Anina dropped it at Farai's paws. Farai stared down at it before glaring back up at Anina.
"What's this?" Farai demanded.
"That's your breakfast," Anina explained, as if Farai should have known better.
"I don't want that pathetic excuse for a meal. Give me some antelope," Farai told her. The Ans shook their heads slowly.
"Can't," Ananii said rather shortly. "That stuff is for Sarabi - and before you ask for the rest of the food, that's ours. We'll be eating it when we've finished our job for the morning."
"Well sod Sarabi! I'll take her piece instead! I was here first - she's not getting special treatment just because she's a Princess!" Farai darted forward to snatch up some antelope meat, but the Ans blocked her way.
"Bugger off, Farai! Take what you've been given, will ya? It's just, me, An and Tumai are hungry and want to eat our breakfast now," Anina hissed. Farai growled, but was interrupted when Sarabi strolled over to stand with the Ans and Tumai.
"She's trying to nick your breakfast, Sarabi!" Tumai squealed. "But we ain't letting her!"
"You just better remember what happened to Shupaa when she tried to mess me about, because I WILL hurt you," Farai said threateningly. She then focused on Sarabi. "Same goes for you as well!"
"Why don't you watch your evil nonce mouth?!" Ananii snapped angrilly. "You can't threaten her like that!"
"Please, don't get involved on my behalf, ladies," Sarabi told her friends. "She's clearly disturbed."
Tumai let out a snort of laughter and the Ans cackled loudly. Sarabi grinned as rage took over Farai's face.
"YOU poisoned your entire pride, killed your own family members, and think you're gonna be Queen of Pride Rock - and I'M insane?!" She said with a forced laugh. Sarabi shook her head and smiled calmly.
"No, you're not insane. I prefer to call it a personality disorder."
Farai's paw twitched - if the screws hadn't been wandering the cave that morning, she would have beaten the crap out of all of them right there, but it wasn't worth it when there were too many witnesses around. Instead, she began stomping away, grumbling to herself.
"Oi, Farai! You forgot your mouse!" Tumai called after her.
The servers continued to giggle and mock Farai as the dangerous lioness walked away in annoyance. She snarled to herself, determined to show them, one day, that she wasn't to be messed with.
